Intermediate Grades 3-5

 3rd Grade

Third-grade students move from learning to read to reading to learn. Using strategies such as asking questions, making inferences, and summarizing allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the text. They also at the same time build their vocabulary and increase fluency. Students begin the writing process by learning how to write a structured paragraph. In math, a big emphasis is put on mastering all basic facts through 12 in addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. Finally, students learn to work cooperatively with others, make good choices, and build stronger friendships.

4th Grade

Entering into 4th grade, expectations increase as students become more responsible for their own learning. Students will dive deeper into the daily curriculum, using and expanding upon the skills previously learned. Organization and time management skills play an important role in their success. They will be asked to think independently and critically. They will also engage with their peers in decision-making. Last but not least, they will work on showing empathy and respect towards their classmates and others.

5th Grade

Fifth grade is a bridge between intermediate and middle school. Students will learn they are responsible for their own learning. Teachers and parents are here to help encourage them in their efforts to become self-reliant and self motivated learners. Fifth graders will learn how to show respect for themselves and others through their words and actions. Students learn to navigate through their day by communicating and problem solving with their peers.

"We love this school because of the personal attention given to each and every child, focusing on their strengths and gently guiding them through their challenges. Academically, our daughter entered high school very prepared for the rigorous demands, and received a scholarship for having the highest incoming entrance score. We are grateful to have found this little hidden gem of a school, and we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the loving, giving and caring environment that encompasses SCL. GO CRUSADERS!!!
