Welcome to the eighth grade website! This school year is full of exciting activities and interesting challenges for the eighth grade. As the leaders of the school, this year’s eighth grade assumes the responsibility of acting as role models for the younger students and will be focusing their many talents to give service to others.

Texts: Confirmed in the Spirit by Loyola Press
Confirmed in Spirit is a complete and flexible multicomponent sacramental preparation program that invites, welcomes, and nurtures young Catholics as they grow in faith, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, embrace their role as mature, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Confirmation journals allow the students to engage, explore, reflect and respond to topics covered in their text.
Family Life:
Text: Family Life by RCL Benziger
Family Life is designed to prepare my students to live a safe and healthy, moral an loving lives as members of the Christian family. Each lesson introduces students to a moral virtue related to family and community living, and helps them begin to practice the skills required to live that virtue and make it a personal habit. This series addresses many sensitive topics, and all topics are part of everyday living.
Students are required to perform 25 hours of service throughout the year.
Literature:
Texts: Elements of Literature Second Course by Holt, Rinehart & Winston
Novels: To Kill a Mockingbird, Nothing but the Truth, Our Town, and The Painted House
This text offers a comprehensive selection of the best novels, works of nonfictions, anthologies, and connected readings with selections drawn from a variety of cultures. The selections help motivate students and enhance their appreciation and understanding of classic and contemporary literature. Students will read various genres of literature and will be tested on content and vocabulary.
Accelerated Reading Program allows the student to do independent reading and set a goal for themselves each quarter. Students are responsible to pass the computer generated test.
Vocabulary:
Text: Wordly Wise 3000 by School Specialty
This is a systematic academic vocabulary development program. It is designed to teach the students words they need to know to perform well in school on tests and later on in their jobs.
Math – 6th, 7th & 8th Grades
Today more than ever, students need strong skills in reading, writing, and note taking in mathematics in order to become independent learns. Acquiring these skills in middle school, will build an important foundation for advanced courses and for their adult life.

All programs use the research-based strategy of a balanced approach to instruction. They open doors to abstract thought, reasoning, and inquiry. The foundations of these programs are the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Content and Standards for Mathematical Practice. These series expose students to highly motivating and relevant problems. Woven throughout the series are the depth and rigor students need to prepare for career-readiness and other college-level courses.
